With a user base of nearly 10 million people located across the U.S., CirrusMD recognizes the need to support people in a wide range of locations, and from different backgrounds and cultures. Among those using the CirrusMD platform are native Spanish speakers, who often find it easier to chat with a doctor in their first language.
Now, CirrusMD is launching language support on the mobile app, providing a seamless experience to support Spanish-speaking patients. This new feature uses Artificial Intelligence to translate text from Spanish to English and back, enabling a real-time chat between doctor and patient.
CirrusMD is provided to patients by their employer or health plan. When a new user downloads the app and registers for the CirrusMD platform, this new capability provides mobile phone auto detection of the user’s default language. Patients who already have the CirrusMD app should have auto-updates turned on, and this new feature is automatically activated. Patients do need to have their default phone language set to SPANISH to enable the feature.
“We are committed to providing equitable access to care for all patients using the CirrusMD platform,” said Dr. Justin Chang, VP, CirrusMD Provider Network. “Equity is at the core of our mission. This new capability equals even greater access for people with limited English proficiency, harnessing the power of chat to erase barriers to care.”
Additional language support is planned for further development. In addition to the chat text, patient navigation and field names will also be fully translated, and progress notes documenting a patient's clinical status will appear in both languages.
